It’s been a long time coming, I’m excited to announce it’s official! We’re launching the event we’ve been working on for more than a year. With all ten toes in we’re giving away some amazing gifts for the beat maker community. Big Noise Radio and affiliates are hosting a Beat Battle competition right now in 2026… There will be three grand prizes given away to the top 3 winners of the Beat Battle contest. First (1st), Second (2nd) and Third (3rd) place prizes will be awarded to the selected winners. Going back to our “All City” roots music producers from around the world are invited to submit beats. “Back of The Bus” is the ticket to this beat battle competition, sonic salute to the global transit line of hip-hop music and culture. “All aboard ya’ll, all-city lets go!”
The “Back of The Bus” is where the cool kids sit, where the music gets turned up, where neighborhood transactions go down, a place you lean back on the late night ride home. The Back of The Bus has always been the place where style and influence are discussed. Judges for the Beat Battle are featured on the Bandcamp “Back of The Bus” Beat Cookup project. Beat makers have 60 days to cook up their best beat for the competition. Plenty of time for everyone to produce, mix and master their music.

To enter all you have to do is cop one of the Tuned Drum kits to make your beat. Follow @bignoiseradio on Instagram and submit your beat before the contest deadline. Beats should be no longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds (2:30). Sample chops, instruments, sample stem packs, it’s all good. Just use the “Back of The Bus” Tuned Drums to make your drum beat. Question: if you could tune your drums to a note within the scale of your track, what would that do for your music? As it turns out, it creates tonal harmony between your drums and instruments. The relationship between the kick-drum and the bass support each other. The harmonics of all the drum sounds mesh with the scale of the composition in a way that is extremely pleasing to the ear. That’s tonal harmony!
When you layer tuned drum-sample-kits tuned-in-key… You are able to control the timbre of the drums in a way only human drummers can. Selecting different combinations of drum sound layers i.e the snare, rim, and/or kick drums, delivers sonic dynamics in drum pattern timbre and feel. Layer more drums to create thick soupy break-drum style tracks. Add layer variations across the drum pattern to create sonic dynamics. Deliver human drummer feel, including timing, Flam and spatial dynamics.

These are music producers from the community who will help to select the winners of the beat battle.

The “Back of The Bus” Beat Battle / Sample Challenge officially starts on January 23rd, 2026. The competition officially ends on March 23rd 2026. Participants must cop at least one “Back of The Bus” Tuned Drum Kit to qualify for entry. Anyone submitting beats after the March 23, 2026 deadline will not be considered. Contestants please cop at least one “Tuned Drum Kit” and provide your full name and contact info during checkout. You can mention BOTB Beat Battle in the checkout notes. Register for the Beat Battle and provide your “order number” when you submit your beat. Top 3 finalists will be determined within 30 days of March 23, 2026. In the event a finalist is not able to complete the contest due to unforeseen reasons or contest rule discrepancies, a runner up will be chosen in their place. Prizes will be shipped to the top 3 Back of The Bus beat battle contest winners, within 15 business days of announcement. If we don’t have 300 entries by March 23rd we will extend the competition deadline until we at least 300 contestants.
To Enter The “Back of The Bus” Beat Battle: Submit your beats and order number to bignoisempc…at…gmail for the time being. We’re working on a contest email address or upload portal. We’ll let everybody know as soon as we come up with something.
Participants mush maintain a standard of community respect and cooperation. Foul, disrespectful, confrontational language and/or conduct will get you disqualified from the contest immediately.
