The EQP5 Passive Equalizer with vintage output option is a premium tone-shaping EQ based on the prized Pultec EQP-1A3SS filter circuitry. It’s a single slot 500-Series mono EQ with high frequency cut and boost, as well as low frequency cut and boost. This is a very natural sounding shelving EQ perfect for individual channel or mix-bus operation. Don’t let the price fool you, this unit can stand up alongside high end studio gear, including original Pultec equalizers. Although this is a passive unit, the makeup gain section is active via the 2520 DOA as in the original Pultec design. This unit has garnered many 5 star reviews from owners and studio engineers.
The World’s Most Musical Filters. The EQP5 employs the passive filter circuitry made famous by Pultec’s legendary EQP series of equalizers, specifically the EQP-1A3. Decades after their introduction, these EQ’s remain coveted for their uniquely musical and natural behavior. Even aggressive tone settings sound musically appealing. Pultuc equalizers have been faithfully recreated by many audio plugin manufacturers like UAD, however software plugins do not compare to the quality of the EQP5 analog hardware.
Vintage Tone or Modern Clarity Choose between a vintage and colored output or clean and modern stage; you can switch between them with a solder-less jumper on the board. The Modern (standard) output is a clean, robust, balanced output for excellent noise performance. Choose this output to use the EQP5 for transparent, natural tone-shaping.
The Vintage Output employs a 2520 style DOA (discrete opamp) and custom iron core transformer (typically employed in 70’s era studio consoles) for a livelier dynamic character. The vintage output gives signals a more visceral, forward feeling that helps them translate clearly in a mix while requiring less level to do so. The solid-state Pultecs, the sound of which many engineers claim to be sweeter than that of the earlier tube units, use the same DOA / transformer output scheme.
Fully Assembled & Tested: Hand assembled with care and passion by the Big Noise MPC staff, in the united states. Approx 8 hour build time. The EQP5 Passive Equalizer is crafted with quality components, we test and characterized each unit after assembly. A 500-Series lunch-box or rack-mount chassis with power supply are required to operate this unit.
